Academic Works
The following are examples of academic work I have competed throughout my time at John Carroll University, listed according to department and department learning goals.
Tim Russert Department of Communication and Theatre Arts
|
Department Learning Goal: Apply communication theories and perspectives to specific contexts
Course: Audience Matters (Fall 2017) Within the Audience Matters course (a course designed to be an introduction into audience and communication theory) I was tasked with writing a paper that would analyze a particular theory of audience and how it was applied within research. For this paper, I examined Desensitization as seen through communication studies, especially seen through a high school showing of Schindler's List in Northern California in 1994 and the attitudes surrounding the movie. |
Department of Political Science
|
Department Learning Goals: Communicate skillfully in multiple forms of expression and having knowledge of one of the major fields of political science: political theory.
Course: Political Thought (Fall 2016) This paper was written for Political Thought to evaluate different forms of Reason used by various political philosophers (focusing on Mary Wollstonecraft and Jean Jacques Rousseau) as well as the role Reason plays in the creation of social and political inequalities. |
|
Department Learning Goals: Demonstrate an integrative knowledge of the human and natural worlds and acting competently in a global and diverse world.
Course: Berlin: From Reich to Republic (Spring 2017) This paper explored the concept of collective memory and resistance within Germany in order to examine various perspectives on the topic in the form of a literature review. This paper meets Department Learning Goals by identifying linked social, economic, and political factors on a regional and global level, as well as drawing informed conclusions formed through more than one field of study (history and political science). |
|
Department Learning Goals: Identify global, national, or local situations affected by violence, injustice and oppression; explain their causes and consequences; and explore possible solutions
Course: Transitional Justice (Fall 2018) This paper was written as a Final Paper in Transitional Justice and aimed to take any concept within the study of Transitional Justice and further explore and analyze it. Specifically, this paper explored the concept of Security Sector Reform post-conflict and offered a basic comprehensive framework to better implement Security Sector Reform (SSR) especially as combined with Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) policies. |
